How to Create Product Attributes in Adobe Commerce

Product Attributes are the important components of your product pages. They can help customers choose the exact type of product they want. These attributes also enable users to search and compare items based on their unique characteristics.

The Adobe Commerce has some default product attributes: Name, Price and Description . Others can be created within the Adobe Commerce Admin interface.

How to Create Product Attributes in Adobe Commerce

To create a new attribute for your Adobe Commerce store, you’ll need to go through the following steps:

Step 1: Go to Stores→ Attributes→ Product. You should see a list of attributes currently in store. To add a new one, hit the Add New Attribute button on the upper-right hand side of the page:

Step 2: Select the necessary Attribute Properties such as Default Label and Catalog Input Type for Store Owner. Use the Values Required field to indicate whether you require a value to be enteredbefore the record can be saved:

Step 3: Under the section called Manage Options, use the Add Option button to add all the needed options for your future attribute set. Mark your default option:

Step 4: Next, we’ll need to scroll the page down to indicate our Advanced Attribute Properties. Specify the necessary settings, including Attribute Code, select the Scope, choose whether you’ll use the Unique Value and select other necessary settings:

Step 5: Proceed to the Manage Labels tab. Here, you will be presented with the table for managing your attributes’ labels:

Step 6: As the next step, you’ll need to switch to the Storefront Properties tab. Choose among the most appropriate settings, including the use in Layered Navigation, specify the position of the attribute in layered navigation block, choose whether to Allow HTML Tags on Storefront and so on.

Click Save Attribute once everything is complete.

How to Assign Attributes to the existing product

Step 1:  Last but not least, we’ll need to apply our brand attribute to the existing product.

To do that, you’ll need to go to Catalog → Products, select the product you would like to apply our attribute to and click the Edit button on the right-hand side of the product list:

Step 2: Next, you’ll need to click the Add Attribute button, select our newly-created attribute from the list of available options and click the Add Selected button to terminate the operation:

Step 3: Now, by scrolling the Product Page down to the Attributes section, you should see the list of options we’ve defined in step 3 of the previous section:

Click Save at the end.
