BT Broadband Extender Flex 500 Kit adapters are simpler than you think. They work by plugging the extender into any 230 volt mains socket and passing your broadband/internet signal through your existing house wiring, if the writing is on the same electrical circuit. This creates a high-speed network. You connect an extender to your router and mains socket (this is your master extender) and other extenders (acting as slaves) at the desired location of your other connected devices; Smart TV, laptop, PC, Mac, BT Vision box, YouView, Now TV, etc. Simplified, it gives you an internet/network connection where desired, if there is a socket nearby. It’s a superb concept and they do work well. My father uses the BT brand and I use the TP Link brand, TP Link Nano are physically smaller so if you are really limited for space behind a cupboard or bookshelf for example, look at the TP Link brand. My dad has BT Vision so was initially sent the older v1 BT extenders made by Simpler Networks to connect TV to Network.
The newer BT Flex extenders are fully compatible with the older version. You can also mix and match the 200 Mbps with 500 Mbps models. The numbers simply mean the speed between the extender and the connected device, it does not mean your internet speed will increase, because the extenders only have a 100 Mbps switch, so in essence the speed will never top this. Essentially it’s marketing. Also important: You cannot mix and match brands. It’s relatively easy to link slave extenders to the master and full installation instructions are included with all units. You will need physical access to both extenders at the time of syncing. If they don’t connect at first, keep trying until they work, or use the button to factory reset the extender and start again. I’ve connected 6 BT extenders and I’ve never failed to get them to connect – eventually. The extenders have 3 LEDs; Power, Ethernet and Data which show you the status of the device and connectivity. They also have an integrated power-saving feature for when not in use.A good product, but you will pay a bit more for the BT brand.
