I work from a 2006 build apartment and it looks like the builder had used a job lot of door closers – definitely not new – and it was a big ugly silver lump. It appears the mechanism had broken on the front door, it was no longer a smooth motion when closing. Once unscrewed I was left with 4 holes, and because the Briton unit is half the physical size I didn’t think it would fit. I also had doubts if it would be strong enough to support the heavy fire door.Luckily, 2 of the original holes lined up with the Briton unit, so I just had to pop in 2 more holes, and fasten it on. Even the arm bracket holes lined up with the original hole on the door frame. 20 minutes tops to remove the old closer, install new and adjust the closure speed. The Briton has a small physical size, clean design and the nice colour fades into the background. It handles the heavy fire with ease. Job done and good buy!
