The HD 10 allows you to watch movies in full HD which frees up the rest of the family to watch the big screen LCD TV. This thing has great HD resolution and the 10.1” screen brings everything to life. It’s a feature-rich tablet, very light in weight and super thin with a display that’s over a million pixels, which is as much clarity you’ll ever need. The processor is very quick which makes the tablet very responsive when surfing, reading and watching movies. It has a rear facing camera that takes fantastic photos and videos that are unbelievable for a tablet. With Prime you get full access to Amazon Instant Video which has over 800,000 books, audio books, movies, and a million songs. With Prime you can get instant TV shows and video movies offline—this feature is very useful because you can entertain yourself on the bus ride to and from work.
Amazon Underground gives you apps and games, 38 million songs, books, movies, TV shows—really a very nice selection, more than I’ll ever need. There is 16 GB storage, but if you get a microSD card giving you an additional 128GB of storage—I can’t imagine needing more—but Amazon also offers unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content and photos that you take with your Fire. One of the coolest things is that the Fire lasts up to 8 hours with a full charge, of course this depends on whether your reading, surfing, listening to music, watching video or web browsing. Usability is great and the home screen lets you see different content pages for video, apps, games, books, music Newstand and audiobooks—and you can pick up from where ever left off with music, book, whatever. There’s also recommendation engine based on your previous choices that gives you suggestions for future media when you need it.The connected Amazon app store has thousands of games, apps, in-app from people like Disney, Rovio Entertainment, Zynga, Zeptolab and Sega of America that are actually FREE.The Fire also has the Family Library so you can share apps, books, audiobooks, etc. and also (this is the best part for me) you can share Prime instant video. And all of this can be done across devices, free apps and Amazon devices plus Android and iOS.
My wife and kids and I link up with Amazon Prime account and we constantly share our movies, music, books, etc., very nice option. The new exclusive Word Runner feature helps you read faster. This software keeps your focus on the middle of the page and then shoots the next words right at the level your eyes are at. Dynamic pacing slows down for difficult passages, paragraph or punctuation or other page breaks. Also, when you start off it gradually gets faster to the speed you choose. If you happen to miss a word or passage or you want to reread something you just tap and hold with your finger and it pauses and allows you to scroll and go back to wherever you want. This has been a great tool and I think it actually has allowed me better comprehension and faster reading. It also has Mayday screen sharing which is direct to customer service that is exclusive to Fire tablets. I used it the other day and the customer service rep was able to guide me through how to set up apps. The rep also set up some features for me—really nice service. No hassle set up and very friendly. The Fire has a thing called ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction) which basically learns your preferences and then gets the shows you might like, sets them up for viewing so you can right to it. I’ve used something like this on NetFlix but this one on Fire seems to be more intuitive, really right on.
My Favorite Fire Stuff: With Prime you can “borrow” any title from the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library for free once a month—no due dates and no waiting. They have a great selection with 600,000 titles that include top sellers on Amazon.co.uk.You get Free movies, lots of them, and my kids love movies. Plus original series and TV shows like Downtown Abbey, Under the Dome, Transformers: Age of Extinction. And perhaps the best part you don’t need WiFi for these, just use the Prime Instant Video download—I couldn’t be happier with this service, there’s literally thousands of titles to choose from. I went on a business trip to NY last week and watched hours of my favorite shows and movies on the plane trip—very nice. And again, the ten inch HD screen is unbeatable.Everything I have on the tablet I can mirror on the big TV screen, whether it’s movies or TV shows. With this, you can turn the big screen TV into the primary monitor which makes your Fire tablet handle the playback controls or you can free up the Fire to send or check emails, browse the web or whatever while you’re watching the movie on the big screen. There really isn’t much competition out there that can stand up to the Fire for the low investment. It basically has all the features you’ll need and with Amazon Prime to back it up the content is unbelievable. Since moving from my laptop, I haven’t missed it one bit, and will probably giving it away because the Fire just does everything I could possibly need it to do.
